The Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) the Reserved Activities Regulation and the Licensed Practical Nurse Regulations provide the legal framework for the profession of practical nursing in Prince Edward Island. They grant CLPNPEI its authority to govern practical nurses, and its duty to do so in a way that serves and protects the public interest.
In accordance with the RHPA, CLPNPEI is authorized to maintain registers of practical nurses, establish entry to practice requirements, establish standards of education, develop standards and codes to guide the profession, issue practice directives, ensure continuing competence, and oversee the conduct of practical nurses.
The RHPA Act also grants the CLPNPEI Council authority to make by laws to govern the affairs of CLPNPEI
